This classic Tudor Revival home in Tonawanda, NY already had the kind of character that cannot be recreated easily: warm original woodwork, leaded and divided-light windows, a beautifully detailed staircase, and an unmistakable old-world presence.
Our goal was never to erase that history. It was to help the home evolve with the young couple living there as their family grew.
Through full-service interior design, custom built-ins, thoughtful furniture selections, layered artwork, and a deeper color palette, we created a home that feels connected to its roots while working beautifully for modern family life.
The finished spaces feel warm, expressive, and collected—designed for everyday routines, growing children, easy entertaining, and a family story that will continue unfolding inside the home.
The Design Concept
The design concept centered around honoring the home’s original Tudor Revival architecture while bringing in a fresher, more relaxed point of view.
Traditional woodwork and historic details formed the foundation of the design. Rather than competing with those features, we introduced furnishings, textiles, lighting, and artwork that complemented their warmth while giving the rooms more energy and personality.
Deep blue-green paint, rich wood tones, aged brass, layered vintage rugs, modern upholstered furniture, and collected art create a sense of depth throughout the home. The mix of old and new keeps the interiors from feeling overly formal while preserving the architectural character that made the homeowners fall in love with the house in the first place.
The result feels timeless, but never predictable.

Layered Artwork and Collected Details
Artwork plays an important role throughout the home.
Instead of selecting art simply to fill empty walls, we worked with personal photographs, vintage pieces, collected objects, and meaningful imagery to create arrangements that feel connected to the family.
Gallery walls appear throughout the entry, staircase, dining nook, and built-in spaces, reinforcing the idea that a home should tell the story of the people living in it.
The mix of frame styles, artwork sizes, vintage references, and personal photography gives the interiors a sense of history while keeping the rooms visually interesting and deeply individual.
These collections help bridge the gap between the home’s original architecture and the family’s present-day life.
A Dramatic Entry That Celebrates the Architecture
The original staircase is one of the home’s most beautiful architectural features, so the design was built around allowing it to stand out.
A deep charcoal-blue wall color creates a dramatic backdrop for the warm wood banister, stair treads, door casings, and original trim. Instead of lightening or covering the woodwork, we allowed its natural warmth and craftsmanship to become the focal point.
A layered gallery wall follows the angle of the staircase, bringing personal artwork and collected pieces into a space that may otherwise have felt transitional. The arrangement draws the eye upward and helps the entry feel like a true introduction to the home.
Nearby, a built-in bench provides a comfortable place to pause while adding another warm, functional detail to the entry.
It feels historic, personal, and just moody enough—which is usually where the good stuff happens.

This project was ultimately about balance. We wanted to preserve the old-world warmth and architectural integrity of the Tudor Revival home while creating spaces that felt comfortable, functional, and relaxed enough for a growing family.
Original woodwork was celebrated rather than hidden. New cabinetry was designed to feel connected to the existing architecture. Modern furniture was layered with vintage rugs, collected artwork, and traditional details to keep the home feeling fresh.
The result is a home that feels rooted in its history but ready for everything still ahead. It is warm, layered, functional, and unmistakably personal a historic Tonawanda home thoughtfully designed for modern family life.
