Briercliff Lower Level - After moving into their new home, the homeowners wanted to finish the previously unfinished basement into a space they could enjoy as a family and when they entertain guests. A place to gather, and live day to day without sacrificing style or warmth. A new bathroom & Office allows this family to grow with the space.
After moving into their new home, the homeowners wanted to finish the previously unfinished basement into a space they could enjoy as a family and when they entertain guests.
Before
Previously, the entire lower level was unfinished but held lots of potential for multiple rooms with unique details that would fit the client’s design style. Although the basement was unfinished, there was already rough-in plumbing, which was beneficial but required careful planning with the floor plan and layout, particularly with the bathroom.
Design Approach
As a design and build project, we focused on both form and function.
Key design decisions included:
Reworking the layout to improve flow
Designing custom cabinets to maximize storage
Selecting materials that balanced durability and style
Lighting + Fixture Selections
Materials + Color Selections
The vision for this space was to incorporate design elements that work with the rest of the home, while adding color and an eclectic feel to the lower level. We brought in unique lighting fixtures, a few bold patterns, and artwork that stand out.
Living Room
In the living room, we added built-in media cabinets that also double as storage for kid’s toys. For the lower cabinets, we chose Retreat by Sherwin Williams, and the upper cabinets are Snowbound by Sherwin Williams to match the wall color.Throughout the lower level, including in the living room, the light fixtures add a lot of personality. These rattan sconces were the perfect addition, while adding secondary lighting on either side of the TV.
Dry Bar
One of the standout elements of the lower level is the arched dry bar that features a beautiful combination of quartz and tile. For the cabinets, we brought the same green color used in the media cabinets to tie the whole space together. Even in a small space, the details make a big impact. On the floor in front of the bar, we used a Cross & Star tile design from The Tile Shop. Then above the floating shelf, the vertical offset stacked Coco Canvas tile from The Tile Shop makes a huge impact above the floating shelf.
Paired with champagne bronze hardware from Amerock Hardware, the colors and finishes feel really cohesive. To finish the look, we chose an antique brass sconce from West Elm centered on the bar.
Bathroom
Figuring out the best layout of the bathroom was one of the challenges we faced during the remodel. The homeowners were debating on a freestanding tub or an alcove tub, but they decided on an alcove tub to allow for more room in the living room and better function for the wet bar.
The wood vanity custom made by us provides ample storage and brass hardware details that pair well with the sconce lighting and arched mirror. Throughout the bathroom, we chose champagne bronze faucets from Delta. The alcove tub fits into the space but because of the taller height is a nice soaking option. With a vertical offset tile design, the shower adds to the fun details throughout the lower level, especially with the floral shower curtain.
The Result
The finished spaces are a complete transformation, more functional, better organized, and visually refined. The custom cabinetry plays a central role in both the design and usability of the space. A big part of what sets us apart is our focus on custom cabinetry and millwork. We design and build pieces that feel like they’ve always belonged in the home—thoughtfully scaled, highly functional, and tailored to the way you live.
