Home Filled with Story, Character, and Collected Pieces

Tucked quietly within the city of Buffalo, New York, this 1830 home carried with it nearly two centuries of history—and a homeowner who wanted to honor it in a deeply personal way.

From the beginning, this project was never about making the home feel “new.” Instead, the goal was to create a space that felt layered, collected, and connected to the people who lived there before. The homeowner wanted the perfect balance between her own style and the meaningful pieces passed down through her family—especially the collection of antiques and keepsakes left behind by her father.

Design Approach

Our design approach focused on blending old and new in a way that felt intentional rather than overly styled. We paired her father’s collected antiques with more modern furnishings to create contrast and balance throughout the home. Rich wood tones, aged finishes, and vintage details brought warmth and character, while cleaner silhouettes and softer textures helped keep the spaces feeling fresh, livable, and calm.

Throughout the home, we leaned into a palette of deep, moody colors layered with soft natural textures. Warm woods, linen fabrics, vintage rugs, natural stone, and subtle greenery helped create an environment that feels grounded and inviting. We used natural plants and softer textiles to bring lightness into the darker tones, allowing the home to feel cozy without becoming heavy.

One of the most meaningful parts of this project was finding ways to give new life and visibility to the pieces her father had collected over the years. Rather than storing them away, we thoughtfully incorporated them throughout the home so they could be appreciated every day—each one adding another layer of story and personality to the space.
